Select poles for instructed alpine use and verify grip, strap and basket compatibility.

Alpine ski poles need a suitable fitted length and a supported hand arrangement. A racing association or carbon description does not establish those requirements. Ask the instructor or ski shop which pole category suits the current programme, then compare the exact length, grip, strap and replaceable basket system.

Choose the category and fitted length

LEKI separates racing, freeride and slope pole arrangements. A pole intended for a specialised activity is not necessarily the useful choice for ordinary instructed resort skiing. Use the maker's length guidance with the instructor and the actual equipment. An adjustable pole should be assessed within its supported operating range rather than bought solely because it can extend far enough.

Confirm whether the listing contains a pair or a single replacement pole. Check the minimum packed length where transport matters, and distinguish that from usable ski length. Junior purchases need the instructor's current assessment; children at an early learning stage may have a programme-specific equipment list. A height chart does not determine whether poles belong in every lesson.

Check the hand and accessory interfaces

Identify the grip and strap system by its full model name. LEKI offers proprietary Trigger arrangements, so a compatible glove or replacement strap must be explicitly supported. Do not infer interchangeability from a similar clip. Manufacturer release-system descriptions should remain attributed; this guide does not quantify injury reduction or claim any mechanism removes the need for instruction.

Consider a skier who owns supported gloves and needs replacement poles. Compare a compatible grip system with a conventional arrangement, including any required new straps or gloves in the total. The preferred purchase depends on fit and the instructed routine. This example does not give strap-use technique or claim that one grip produces better turns.

Plan basket service and regional dimensions

Check whether baskets and tips are replaceable on the exact pole and which official parts are supported. A snow basket is not automatically compatible merely because it screws onto a shaft. Ask the retailer about damage inspection, care and approved replacement. A bent or cracked pole should not be treated as serviceable because the handle and strap still look intact.

US and European catalogues often use centimetre pole lengths but can differ in supplied straps and accessory packages. Compare exact model code, pair count and packed size. Include a carrying arrangement with the skis and confirm airline requirements separately when travelling. Keep the fitted length recorded for later replacement, with adult involvement in a child's equipment checks and purchases.
